“Like a millennial Syd Barrett , Yossarian make music to express a kind of lunacy.” NME
After a breakthrough 2012 that saw them draw comparisons to The National and Pink Floyd, capture festival buzz with performances at Tramlines and The Big Mix as well as opening Hop Farm Festival on a bill with My Morning Jacket & British Sea Power and raise $10,000 to crowd-fund their debut album, Yossarian are poised to explode in 2014 with The Little We Know.
With Yossarian’s debut album, the band combine multi-layered guitars, Floyd-esque minimalism, harrowing cryptic vocals, heartfelt dark yet uplifting songwriting full of conviction and detail with sky-scraping arrangements that have won them many fans. ‘The Little We Know’ strings together themes of alienation in London, travels around Europe and Australia, death of loved ones, the end of relationships, hope, luck, god and even the history of the universe. Highlights include the building majesty of “Arrow Part 1”, the beautiful transitional acceptance of “The Season Song,” and the delicate, inspiring “Underwater,” all of which tell a story in technicolour.
Broken Fires are a seven-piece alternative pop band inspired by Frightened Rabbit, Weezer, Ben Kweller, Arcade Fire and Two Gallants. Formed in January 2014, they released one EP ‘Out of the Woods’ that received good reviews and radio play on BBCR1 (Jen Long), BBCR1 (Bethan Elfyn) and local stations Nation Radio (Cardiff) and The Wave (Swansea).
Aaronson were brought together by postcards on the shop wall and are kept together by a shared love of unsettling post punk.
